On Monday, Broome-Tioga BOCES recognized the South Central Regional Information Center (SCRIC, for short) as the recipient of the BOCES Career Development Center’s prestigious Business Spotlight Award.

The SCRIC’s team for this initiative is led by Assistant Manager for Customer Service, Phil Fata. The SCRIC has been a leading partner with the Career Development Center, and particularly CTE’s IT Specialist classroom. For more than five years, the SCRIC has hosted co-op (internship) positions for IT students. This year, there is a new high of 10 students who will be placed in SCRIC roles in their local districts. That will bring the total number of students placed in co-ops via the SCRIC to 31 over five years. The success of these co-ops has led to additional opportunities throughout Broome-Tioga BOCES.

This relationship has allowed students to gain hands-on experience in the IT field without the need for a vehicle. This has helped to level the playing field for students who otherwise would not have had this sort of opportunity. In addition, students at the various SCRIC sites get to work and connect with SCRIC staff who help train and transition students into the IT world of work.

Huge shout out to Phil Fata and his SCRIC team!
